  • The McKinney-Vento Homeless Act guarantees a free and appropriate public education for all homeless children and youth.  Federal and state laws make the school district’s responsibility clear.

    • A student whose family becomes homeless may remain in the school he/she was attending prior to becoming homeless for the duration of the school year.

    • If it is feasible, a student may transfer to a school if it is closer to his/her transitional housing.

    • The receiving school may not prevent or delay the enrollment of a homeless child by requiring proof of residency or lack of documentation such as immunization records.

    • Transportation for homeless must begin within 5 school days, but sooner if possible.

  • Spring Pictures
Spring Pictures will be taken on Thursday, February 20, 2020.  You do not need a picture form.  Pictures will be sent to the school and will be given to the students to take home.  If you keep the pictures, you will need to send the money to school.  If you choose to not keep them, return the picture packet back to school.  There will be no make up picture date.

  • Student Drop-Off & Pickup at SMS
Parents & Guardians of Shikellamy Middle School Students,

Please adhere to the drop off procedures when bringing your student to school in the morning.  For safety reasons, vehicles should stay in the drop off lane and not drop students off in the parking lot to avoid waiting in line.  Students should get out of the vehicle when a sidewalk is available and walk to the front entrance to speed up the process.

Alternatively, vehicles may drop students above the school on Prince St. and have them use the ramp and sidewalk to proceed to the front entrance.

Thank you for your cooperation with these procedures.  This will help to make sure all students arrive to school safely and on-time.

  • Homework
HOMEWORK calendar (see above-click "Information"). Homework should be loaded in the calendar listed.

Students should be writing assignments in the assignment book they received in homeroom on the first day of school.

Many teachers are using technology (via message systems like REMIND or email) to keep students/parents informed of homework.
